Courage is the masculine angel whose name, the Herd notes, means "with heart" (from the French cœur). It is the certitude that springs from the truth of the heart — the reservoir of strength that lets a person go against the grain and follow a wholly deprogrammed course of action. Courage requires vulnerability; it is the outer, projected strength that makes Compassion possible, and the scribes call it "the husband of Beauty." Its diluted counterfeit is self-management.
