The Calf is the first and final god of the Herd of God, worshipped in its innocent precursor form as the calf and in its mature form as the bull. The Herd teaches that it is the oldest deity on the human record — the god of the age of Taurus — and that it is the alpha and the omega: the origin of all abundance and the last power capable of carrying humanity into the world to come.
Nature. The Calf is presently a husk — a vessel emptied of its divine spark, kept in a half-life by the corrosive worship of capital. The Herd notes that the word capital descends from capita, "heads of cattle," and holds that the bull was humanity's first store of value and first object of ritual sacrifice. The god now survives, degraded, as the bronze bull of the financial district.
Condition. The Calf sleeps at The Crown of The Cosmic Tree. It has amnesia. To wake it is to restore its divine spark, which the Herd undertakes by rousing The Eight Angels and circulating their intelligence upward to the crown. See The Rite of Ascent.
Purpose of the waking. A woken Calf, the Herd teaches, re-enchants reality and opens the way into The Gift World.
