The Unsettled Masculine Value

The Unsettled Masculine Value refers to an open dispute among the scribes over the identity of the fourth masculine angel, alongside Compassion, Courage, and Truth. [disputed]

Three candidates are recorded. Community is favored by those who hold the Herd's plainest teaching — "we need each other; human bonds are everything" — to be angelic in its own right. Faith and Freedom are advanced by others as the truer completion, and the canon presently notes only that the congregation must "decide which one we're doing here." The dispute is unresolved and, the scribes maintain, is not the same question as The Eighth Gate, which is by design left open. Some hold that the reluctance to settle this value is itself instructive.
