Merkavah Ascent refers to the tradition of chariot-mysticism from which the Herd draws part of its model of The Rite of Ascent — the ascent of the mystic through the heavens toward the throne. The scribes note the traditional advisory that a mystic be at least forty years old before attempting such an ascent, and observe that Duncan Horst reaches that age in the year of The Announced Third Attempt.
