The Four-Year Wandering

The Four-Year Wandering is the period following The Bull Protest in which Duncan Horst, exiled from finance, tracked the origins of the ancient god. For roughly four years — "at ten times the speed of the original Moses" — he traveled, fasted, and performed rites intended to reconstruct what people of The Age of Taurus "were thinking, feeling, and seeing," in order to recover the original worship. The wandering ended when he emerged with the procedure that would become The Rite of Ascent, and began The First Attempt.
